Adoptions and Orphans in the Early Microcomputer Market:

چکیده
In this paper we develop a model with (1) differentiated consumers, (2) endogenous adoption times, (3) technical uncertainty, and (4) alternative technologies sponsored by competing vendors. We identify conditions under which orphaning arises endogenously in a framework of dynamic competition. We then use the model to examine the development of the microcomputer market in the early 1980s, when the orphaning of a widely-adopted operating system occurred. We find that the data characterizing this event are consistent with our theoretical framework. JEL Classification Numbers: L86, O33. Combination of real options and game-theoretic approach in investment analysis
Investments in technology create a large amount of capital investments by major companies. Assessing such investment projects is identified as critical to the efficient assignment of resources. Viewing investment projects as real options, this paper expands a method for assessing technology investment decisions in the linkage existence of uncertainty and competition. It combines the game-theore...
متن کاملA Microcomputer-Based Simulator for Digital Control Systems
A microcomputer-based simulator for digital control systems is proposed. The proposed simulator is a hybrid system in which the plant is simulated by conventional method of analog computers and other parts of the system including generation of input signal is performed digitally, using a Z-80 based microcomputer. To overcome the difficulty of programming in assembly language, and at the same ti...

متن کاملWho wants to adopt and who wants to be adopted: a sample of American families and sub-Saharan African orphans.
The debate between pro- and anti-international adoption advocates relies heavily on rhetoric and little on data analysis. To better understand the state of orphans and potential adopters in this debate, we utilize the National Survey of Family Growth (NSFG) and the Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) to study who adopts internationally and the status of orphaned children in sub-Saharan Africa....
متن کاملJacob Goldenberg , Sangman Han , Donald R . Lehmann , & Jae Weon Hong The Role of Hubs in the Adoption Process
The authors explore the role of hubs (people with an exceptionally large number of social ties) in diffusion and adoption. Using data on a large network with multiple adoptions, they identify two types of hubs—innovative and follower hubs. Contrary to recent arguments, hubs tend to adopt earlier in the diffusion process, even though they are not necessarily innovative. Although innovative hubs ...
